Targeted regulation of nitrogen works

During the International Nitrogen Conference, Berit Hasler from The DNMARK research component 3 presented the TargetEconN model system, calibrated for the catchments to the Danish fjord ‘Limfjorden’. The aim is to identify nitrogen abatement programs that take the heterogeneity of natural conditions as well as abatement costs within the catchment, into account. It was concluded that spatially differentiated implementation of abatement measures reduce costs compared to uniform regulations, and that including detailed modelling of the spatial configuration of the nitrogen retention in targeting also enables a reduction of the costs of N abatement. The new model will be further demonstrated and used for the DNMARK solution scenarios to be developed in 2017.
